OPP Chatham detachment weekly report

Several drivers will have to answer to various charges after getting caught speeding by OPP on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent.

On Friday at around 12:44 p.m., OPP pulled over a vehicle on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent after it was clocked going 166 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

A 32-year-old from Pain Court was charged with stunt driving and excessive speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

During the interaction, police said officers became concerned for the driver's well-being and believed the individual to be in crisis.

The individual was transported to a local hospital without incident.

Also on Friday at about 11:50 p.m., OPP in Chatham-Kent stopped a driver going 164 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

A 23-year-old from North York was charged with stunt driving and excessive speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On Saturday, a 30-year-old from Chatham was pulled over on Lacroix Street for driving with license plates not authorized to their vehicle.

As a result, the driver was charged with driving while under suspension, use of plates not authorized for the vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and driving with no validated permit.

On Sunday, OPP caught three drivers going well above the speed limit throughout the municipality.

The first driver was pulled over at around 2:10 a.m. on Saturday along Highway 401 after they were clocked going 167 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

As a result, a 27-year-old resident from London was charged with stunt driving, excessive speeding, and failing to surrender a permit for their vehicle.

A 22-year-old from Dresden was also pulled over Sunday at around 12:30 p.m. on St. Clair Road for going 61 km/h over the 80 km/h speed limit.

The driver was charged with student driving and excessive speeding.

At around 4:12 p.m. on Sunday, OPP pulled over a vehicle on the westbound side of Highway 401 after it was clocked going 158 km/h in the 100 km/h zone.

A 19-year-old from Chatham was charged with stunt driving, excessive speeding, and driving without a licence.
