Woman arrested for stealing from store she was banned from attending

A 28-year-old Chatham woman is in more trouble with the law after she allegedly shoplifted from a store she had been ordered to stay away from.

Chatham-Kent police said they got involved after receiving a tip about a woman who was seen taking some items from the Real Canadian Superstore on St. Clair Street in Chatham Monday afternoon without paying for them.

Police said someone gave them a description of the woman and the direction she was last seen heading.

Officers followed up on the tip and said they found her on St. Clair Street, still in possession of the stolen items.

Police also learned that the woman was bound by a release order with a condition that required her to stay away from that specific store.

She was arrested, charged, and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Same store, different person arrested

Chatham-Kent police were called back to the Real Canadian Superstore a second time on Monday, this time for some "suspicious activity."

Police said the second time they were called there was just after 7 p.m. Monday, adding that they found a man who was wanted for failing to comply with a probation order.

A 53-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested, charged, and later released with a future court date.
