Threats towards Chatham convenience store worker leads to multiple charges

A trio of men are facing several charges after an employee at a convenience store in Chatham refused to let one of them make a phone call.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Chatham-Kent police were called to reports of threats being made at Daisy Mart Variety.

According to police, an employee called officers to report that a man had entered the store and asked to use the phone. Due to store policy, the worker declined the man's request, at which point the man allegedly stated that he had a gun and was going to hurt someone.

The employee told police that they observed what appeared to be a handgun in the man's possession as he was leaving the store.

Through investigation, police were able to identify the man and he was located a short distance away where he, along with two other men were arrested.

A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of narcotics as well as a replica firearm.

As a result, a 31-year-old man was charged with uttering threats, two counts of possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order. A 23-year-old man was charged with two counts of possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order. Additionally, a 40-year-old man was charged with two counts of possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking.

All three men were held in police custody pending a bail hearing.
