Harrigan teams up with CKHA Foundation for 'Her Fight is Our Fight' campaign

Chatham-Kent councillor Melissa Harrigan received health news in December that nobody could prepare for when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Harrigan, who has been sharing her journey with the public, has decided to partner with the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation (CKHAF).

A fundraising goal of $10,000 was set in support of breast assessment/mammography in the diagnostic imaging department at Chatham-Kent’s hospital.

"Melissa's positive and optimistic outlook is truly inspirational," read a statement from the foundation. "She has committed to making her journey with breast cancer a meaningful one, advocating for self-exams, regular screening, and early detection for women and men of all ages throughout our community."

Earlier this month, T-shirts with the slogan, ‘Her Fight is our Fight’ were made at Harrigan's request for her family and friends.

Now, former councillor Mark Authier and his wife Lynn, are making pink t-shirts with that slogan in support of Melissa's cause.

The shirts can be purchased for $20 with $5 from each sale going to support the purchase of a new VELA Mammography Chair and fund needed enhancements to the mammography room at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

"Supporting the 'Her Fight is our Fight' campaign will help women across all stages of their cancer diagnosis and journey in Chatham-Kent," the foundation said.

The campaign has raised more than $2,500 so far.

Anyone wishing to support Melissa's cause can purchase a shirt by visiting the campaign's website.

The campaign will continue for as long as Harrigan is in active treatment, which is anticipated to be in mid-to-late 2023.
