Chatham Polar Plunge sets fundraising record, topping $100K

Hundreds of people were Freezin' for a Reason at Sons of Kent in Chatham this past weekend.

After a two-year break because of the pandemic, the in-person Polar Plunge raised $104,370 for Special Olympics Ontario and Torch Run Ontario.

That smashes the fundraising goal of $40,000, and donations continue to roll in online.

150 people took the plunge into freezing cold water on Saturday, January 21, and over 1,300 people donated, along with numerous local sponsors.

Plans are already being made for the 2024 plunge, with a date set for Saturday, January 20, 2024.

In the meantime, the Torch Ride for Special Olympics is coming up in August and the Mike Currie Memorial 5/10km run (formally known as the torch run) is in September 2023.
