Driving complaint from off-duty officer leads to charges 

An off-duty OPP officer is to thank for getting an allegedly impaired driver off the roadways in Chatham-Kent.

Provincial police received a report from the officer of a suspected impaired driver just after 12 a.m. on Monday.

Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Alice Street in Thamesville and issued a breathalyzer test for the driver.

As a result, the 28-year-old  Chatham resident who was behind the wheel was charged with driving with an unsealed container of liquor, driving left of centre on a curve and failing to surrender an insurance card.

Additionally, the driver was issued a three-day administrative driver's licence suspension.

Trailer separates from transport truck on 401 

No injuries are being reported after a collision on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent.

According to provincial police, officers responded to a single-vehicle collision just before 9 a.m. on Friday.

Police said a commercial trailer separated from the transport truck that was pulling it. The trailer left the roadway and entered the ditch.

No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries were reported.

As a result of the collision, a member from the Ministry of Transportation attended the scene, and the investigation was carried over to that agency.

One lane of the highway was closed temporarily to allow for the safe removal of the trailer from the ditch.

RIDE check leads to charges 

A 39-year-old from Kent Bridge will have to answer to a charge after getting stopped at a RIDE Program in Chatham-Kent.

Chatham-Kent OPP were conducting a RIDE checkpoint at the Victoria Road off-ramp of the Westbound 401 around 11:20 p.m. on January 10.

According to police, the driver was found with an unsealed container of liquor and was charged accordingly.

Several speeders nabbed on the 401

A trio of individuals are now facing numerous charges after OPP pulled over three separate drivers on the 401 in Chatham-Kent over the past several days.

Around 10 a.m. on January 10, an OPP officer stopped a passenger vehicle on the highway after it was logged travelling 181 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone.

As a result, the 22-year-old driver from Windsor was charged with stunt driving, driving while suspended and driving while failing to display two licence plates.

On Friday, police pulled over a vehicle after it was caught going 63 km/hr over the speed limit.

Prior to the traffic stop, police said the vehicle was seen abruptly changing lanes, which resulted in the vehicle losing control and colliding with a guard rail.

The 25-year-old driver from Owen Sound was ultimately charged with stunt driving and careless driving.

No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.

Additionally, on Sunday around 2:40 a.m., an OPP officer pulled over a vehicle that was travelling 163 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone.

The 28-year-old from Leamington was charged with stunt driving.

Anyone charged with stunt driving receives a 14-day impoundment of the involved motor vehicle and a 30-day driver's licence suspension as per statute.
