Santa for Seniors brightens the holidays

Chatham-Kent residents stepped up once again to make the holidays special for seniors who were feeling isolated.

Santa for Seniors collected over 1,846 holiday greeting cards and 972 gift boxes. They were then delivered to seniors living in nursing and retirement homes across Chatham-Kent.

A post on Facebook said the seniors were delighted with the gifts and thanked the community for thinking of them.

Fundraising kicked off on November 30 with a fundraiser at Boston Pizza, which brought in $850.

This is the third year for the initiative, which first took place during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

More than 5,000 greeting cards and a little over 800 gifts were sent to local seniors in the program's first year. In 2021, the charity collected over 1,300 gifts and 3,500 greeting cards.
