Plasman donates equipment to Children's Treatment Centre

The Children's Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent is ringing in the holiday season by crossing a few items off its wish list thanks to a recent donation.

The CTC-CK recently received a donation from Plasman of some vital equipment that will benefit its Rad Riders Bike Camp and School Based Rehabilitation Services programming.

Rad Rider camps run each summer, helping to educate children about bike safety, as well as work on pedalling, steering, and gaining confidence on a bike.

According to Registered Physiotherapist Gillian Hueniken The Rad Riders Bike Camp will receive a Go Glider bike, balance bike and scooter, which will be added to the camps for 2023.

“The balance bikes and scooter will give many kids the opportunity and confidence to learn to bike,” explained Hueniken. “This also helps families decide on purchasing bikes for home. As a youth learns to ride, it opens it up for families to participate in an activity together.”

Meanwhile, the centre's School Based Rehabilitation Services will receive four Zuma Rocker Chairs and one Hokki stool, providing movement while seated for children with sensory and muscle tone needs.

“This donation allows us to trial specialized seating in the classroom,” said Occupational Therapist Ally McKinlay. “It provides an opportunity to make sure it is the right chair for the child to support their classroom engagement.”

According to Plasman North American President Tim Berezowski, the company approached the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation earlier this year, looking to support areas of need. The equipment supported was based on a collaborative discussion between CTC-CK clinicians and members of Plasman.

“At Plasman we are committed to our community partnerships by providing support in creating safe and healthy environments like the Chatham-Kent Children’s Centre to promote a sustainable future for children,” explained Berezowski. “We are proud to continue to help assist the communities in which Plasman lives and works.”
