Regional map to showcase brightest light displays across Chatham-Kent

Finding the best and brightest holiday light displays across Chatham-Kent is easier than ever before.

The municipality is once again encouraging local residents and businesses to showcase their holiday light displays through Light Up Chatham-Kent.

Through Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent, participants can place location pins on a map, as well as add a photograph of their decorations, for a chance to win prizes from Canadian Tire.

Participants will be entered into the 12 Days of Christmas Draw, which will begin on December 1 and run through December 13.

Voting will end on December 19 and the winners will receive gift cards to Canadian Tire.

Residents and visitors can use the mobile-friendly map on their cellphones as they drive or walk around Chatham-Kent.

"Last year there were 420 locations pinned on the map in Chatham-Kent," said Chatham-Kent Communications Officer Jim Blake. "There were 420 people who entered and people were able to drive around and vote on the displays."

Many communities and organizations are participating this year, including Buxton Next Generation, the Buxton National Historical Site & Museum, Dresden Shines, and Friends of Blenheim Historic Downtown Chatham BIA, as well as the Tilbury Light Festival and Wallaceburg's Christmas Lights Tour.

"It puts people in the festive mood and it's nice to drive around, especially with kids, and look at all of the light displays," said Blake. "We've got some really beautiful ones in the community."

Those viewing the displays are asked to respect private property.

"People put a lot of work into their properties and some of them are quite inventive," said Blake. "It's nice to see them enjoyed and see them recognized."
