Man, woman both arrested in domestic assault investigation

A 27-year-old Chatham man and a 33-year-old Chatham woman are both facing charges after police were called to investigate a domestic dispute late Sunday night.

Police said they were called to the home on Sandys Street in Chatham at around 11:45 p.m. Sunday.

When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman inside the home and their investigation led them to believe that the woman had assaulted the man.

She also allegedly gave police a fake name.

When police learned who she really was, they also learned that the man and the woman had previously been released by the court on July 23 with a condition that required them to stop communicating with each other.

A 27-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with failing to comply with his release conditions and a 33-year-old Chatham woman was charged with failing to comply with her release conditions, obstructing police, and assault.

The man and the woman were both taken to police headquarters and were set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
