Remembrance Day in Chatham-Kent

There will be no shortage of events in Chatham-Kent on Friday to honour veterans and recognize Remembrance Day.

The following parades are set for Friday, November 11:

Chatham: 

The Chatham Remembrance Day Parade, hosted by Royal Canadian Legion Branch #642 Chatham will take place on Friday starting at 10:45 a.m.

The parade will start at the legion at 39 William Street North and proceed south on William Street and west on King Street West to the Cenotaph on Sixth Street for service. After the service, proceed back to the legion along the same route.

Blenheim: 

Blenheim's Remembrance Day parade will be hosted by Royal Canadian Legion Branch #185 Blenheim.

The parade kicks off at 10:45 a.m. and begins at the legion at 34 Catherine Street, proceeding north on George Street to St. Mary's Hall Street) for Remembrance Day service before returning to Legion Branch 185 on the same route.

Bothwell:

Bothwell's parade will be hosted by Royal Canadian Legion Branch #252 Bothwell and start at 10 a.m. at the legion location on George Street East. The parade will proceed west on George Street, north on Main Street to the Cenotaph for Remembrance Day service before returning to Legion Branch 252 on the same route.

Dresden: 

The Dresden Remembrance Day Parade, hosted by Royal Canadian Legion Branch #113 Dresden, will start at 10 a.m. at the CK Fire Station at 185 Lindsley Street and proceed west on Lindsley Street, then south on St George Street South to the Cenotaph on Queen Street for service.

The parade will reform and proceed west on Queen Street West, north on Centre Street, and east on Lindsley Street before concluding at the fire station.

Erieau: 

This year's Remembrance Day Parade in Erieau is hosted by Royal Canadian Legion Branch #185 Blenheim.

Erieau's parade will start at Molly and OJ's Restaurant on Mariners Road and head east on Mariners Road north on Nichols Avenue, and west on Ross Lane to the Veterans Memorial Garden Friday afternoon between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

After the wreath-laying ceremony, the parade will proceed west on Ross Lane, south on the service road, then proceed east on Mariners Road and conclude at Molly and OJ’s Restaurant.

Tilbury:

The Remembrance Day Parade in Tilbury starts at 10:30 a.m. on Friday and is hosted by Royal Canadian Legion Branch #206 Tilbury.

The parade will begin at the legion at 4 Stewart Avenue and continue west on Stewart Avenue, north on Queen Street to the Cenotaph at Canal Street East for service.

The route will then proceed south on Queen Street, east on Stewart Avenue and end up back at the Legion on Stewart Avenue.

Wallaceburg:

Hosted by Royal Canadian Legion Branch #18 Wallaceburg, the Remembrance Day Parade in Wallaceburg starts at 10 a.m. at Wallaceburg District Secondary School on Lorne Avenue. The route will proceed south on Lorne Avenue, east on Elgin Street, and south on Lisgar Street to the Cenotaph at the corner of Dufferin Avenue and Lisgar Street for Remembrance Day Service.

Following the service, the route will proceed north on Lisgar Street, west on Elgin Street, north on Lorne Avenue and concluding at Wallaceburg District Secondary School.

Wheatley: 

This year's Remembrance Day Parade in Wheatley is hosted by Royal Canadian Legion Branch #324 Wheatley.

Wheatley's parade will start at Wheatley United Church on Talbot Road West and proceed east on Talbot Road West to the Cenotaph at 35 Talbot Road West for service. The parade will re-form and proceed west on Queen Road West concluding at Wheatley United Church.

The parade route will be closed to traffic from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday.

Merlin: 

The Merlin Remembrance Day Parade, hosted by Royal Canadian Legion Branch #465 Merlin, will start at 10 a.m. at the legion on Stanley Street and head west on Stanley Street and north on Erie Street South to the Cenotaph at Kinsman Park for a wreath service.

The parade then proceeds south on Erie Street North, east on Aberdeen Street to the Merlin Community Hall for a Remembrance Day Service. The parade then continues west on Aberdeen Street, south on Erie Street South, east on Stanley Street and concludes at the legion.

Ridgetown:

The Royal Canadian Legion will hold a service at the Ridgetown Cenotaph Park at 11 a.m. on Friday. All veterans and members of the public are welcome to attend.
