Wheatley student wins t-shirt design contest

A student from Wheatley Area Public School is getting some special recognition for winning a design contest put on by the Chatham-Kent Police Service.

Jordyn Lafaive was awarded with a plaque for her design, which will be worn by all of the Values Influences and Peers (VIP) graduates in schools across Chatham-Kent.

The program pairs up students with VIP officers on six different occasions to build a positive rapport and to teach lessons to students about authority and authority figures, youth and the law (shoplifting/vandalism), bike and helmet safety, bullying, and making good choices (drugs).

You can find out more about the VIP program by clicking here.

There are several local organizations that sponsor VIP t-shirts in Chatham-Kent and members of each organization attend the VIP graduations to present students with a VIP t-shirt and to encourage them to be good citizens in the community.

A release from Chatham-Kent police said "the lessons are preventative in nature and allow students to evaluate the consequences of becoming involved in negative behaviour."

Lafaive was presented with her award by the Wheatley Optimist Club and Special Constable Koldyk of the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Section of Chatham-Kent Police Service.
