Theft suspect also booked for breaching probation, harassment

A 26-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing a handful of charges after he was identified as a suspect in a theft investigation in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said their investigation started with a call to a business on Wellington Street West in Chatham just after 11:15 a.m. Wednesday and led them to a suspect who was found a short distance away.

The accused was arrested and taken to police headquarters.

Through their investigation, police also learned that the man was bound by conditions from a probation order and that there were grounds to arrest him for criminal harassment on a separate matter.

He was charged accordingly and taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Abandoned 911 call leads police to wanted man

Two people are facing charges after Chatham-Kent police responded to a 911 call that was abruptly disconnected.

Police said the call came from an address on Thomas Avenue in Wallaceburg at around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, adding that the call-taker heard a man and a woman arguing before the phone disconnected.

Officers arrived at the address and found a man and a woman there and learned that the man was currently bound by conditions not to communicate with the woman or to be within 100 metres of her.

Police said they also learned that the man had allegedly been living with the woman since June 2022 and that London Police had a warrant out for his arrest.

The 37-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a release order and was taken back to police headquarters pending a bail hearing.

The 38-year-old Wallaceburg woman was also arrested and charged with facilitating a breach of release order. She was taken back to police headquarters and later released with a future court date.

Man found on sidewalk arrested for breaching conditions

A 30-year-old Wallaceburg man has been charged with failing to comply with a release order after he was found lying on a sidewalk on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg.

Police said the man had been released from custody on April 11 with a condition to remain in his home except for specific reasons, but officers found him on the sidewalk just after 9 p.m. Wednesday.

As a result, he was arrested and taken back to police headquarters.

He was charged with failing to comply with his release conditions and was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.
