OPP respond to two-vehicle crash on Highway 40

A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 40 and Eberts Line just north of Chatham Wednesday morning resulted in non-life threatening injuries, according to OPP.

Police said they were called to the scene at approximately 7:50 a.m. and that the intersection was temporarily closed for the investigation, but has since re-opened.

There is no word yet on whether charges will be laid in connection with the crash.

Surveillance cameras help police to ID theft suspect

A 33-year-old Wallaceburg man is facing charges after he was allegedly caught on camera trying to cash out with a stolen credit card.

Chatham-Kent police said their investigation started after someone reported that their wallet had been stolen from a vehicle on Cemetery Road in Wallaceburg.

Police said the wallet contained some identification and some credit cards and officers later learned that someone had made several attempts to take cash advances from one of those credit cards at several retail businesses in the area.

Police were able to identify a suspect through surveillance video and they later found and arrested him.

A 33-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with possession of stolen property, failing to comply with a release order, two counts of unauthorized use of a credit card, and two counts of drawing documents without authority.

He was taken back to police headquarters and was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man accused of threatening municipal employee in Chatham-Kent

A 47-year-old Chatham-Kent man has been charged with threatening a local municipal employee after he was reportedly unhappy with the service he received.

Police said they were called to investigate the alleged threats just before noon on Tuesday, adding that they learned while the man was "expressing his displeasure" with the service he had received from the municipality, he also allegedly threatened to harm another employee who was not present.

Officers caught up with the man and arrested him.

He was charged with uttering threats and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Drunk driver called in to police by tipster

A 30-year-old Dresden man is facing an impaired driving charge after someone called police to report a vehicle that was serving over the roadway.

Police said they got the call just before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, adding that the vehicle was spotted on Queens Line in Raleigh Township.

Officers said they were able to track down the vehicle and while they were speaking with the driver, they suspected he was driving under the influence of alcohol, so he was arrested and taken back to police headquarters for further breath tests.

The accused was later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit before he was released with conditions and a future court date.
