Family Service Kent will hold a fundraising walk this weekend in downtown Chatham.
The Grand Parade celebrates older adults in Chatham and Chatham-Kent. Its goal is to raise $20,000.
"Family Service Kent provides services to older adults," said Executive Director Dan Farrow. "So it's a fitting opportunity to raise awareness and funds for services."
At last check, they were at 97 per cent of their fundraising goal. Farrow said all the money raised will go to a couple of programs run by Family Service Kent.
"CHAP transportation, which is accessible door-to-door transportation. The range of services are from local to out-of-town locations, they include medical appointments or other therapeutic appointments, social activities, or just another other destinations that help support daily living," he said. "The other program is the community counselling program, which offers safe, comfortable, non-judgmental environment to discuss concerns in a counselling atmosphere. These needs have certainly become rampant through the pandemic."
Check-in for the Grand Parade begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 17 at Sons of Kent Brewery. Walkers will head out at 11, following a 2.5 km or 5 km route, then have a light lunch served after the walk at noon.
