Pow Wow this weekend at Moraviantown

Indigenous dance, culture, and food will be on display this weekend at the Delaware of the Thames First Nation at Moraviantown.

Eelünaapéewi Lahkéewiit will host its 50th annual Pow-Wow on Saturday and Sunday.

"You'll see dancers from all across the province, and maybe even some dancers coming in from the States," said Chief Denise Stonefish. "It's like a homecoming for us. You know our community had been here since 1792, so that makes us well over 230 years old."

Stonefish said they have a lot planned this weekend, and everyone is welcome.

"We'll have pow wow dances, round dances, we'll have competition. We'll have food booths to give you an idea of some of our traditional foods. Plus we'll have crafts, at lot of craftspeople will be around too, selling their wares."

Grand entry on Saturday, September 3 is at noon and 7 p.m. and on Sunday, September 4 at noon. There is also a baby contest, mini workshops, and numerous raffled including a 50/50 draw.

Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and youth 6-17 years, while kids five and under are free.

Chief Stonefish added that Friday is their Homecoming celebration for members.

"That's to welcome home our members and reconnect with family and things of that nature. So we have a full day planned for our members."
