Man arrested for allegedly threatening woman and her pet

A 33-year-old Chatham-Kent man is finding out the hard way that what you say can get you into big trouble.

Chatham-Kent police said he was arrested after they were called in for a well-being check on Payne Street in Chatham just after 7:30 a.m. Thursday and learned that the man had made several comments that concerned the complainant.

Officers said the man is accused of calling a woman repeatedly and arguing with her while also threatening to harm her and her pet and destroy her property.

The accused was arrested and charged with three counts of uttering threats and one count of criminal harassment and was taken to police headquarters pending a bail hearing.

Michigan man accused of cutting hydro lines to Wheatley home development

A 61-year-old Michigan man is facing mischief charge after he allegedly cut some hydro lines to a new residential development in Wheatley.

Police said their investigation started when they were looking into a neighbour dispute on July 25, 2022.

During that investigation, police said they learned that some significant damage was done during an ongoing disagreement at the site of a new home that was under construction.

Officers said they were able to "form grounds" to arrest a suspect in the case and took him into custody on Thursday.

He was charged with mischief and taken back to police headquarters, then released with a future court date.

Break and enter at vacant property on Longwoods Road

A 37-year-old Chatham Township man has been arrested and charged after police connected him to a break and enter at a vacant property on Longwoods Road in Zone Township.

Police said they were called to the property at around 11:30 p.m. Thursday and managed to track down a suspect who allegedly had property in his possession that was taken from the residence.

The accused was charged with break and enter, theft, and possession of stolen property and was taken back to police headquarters.

He was later released with a future court date.

Police recover stolen ATV pulling scrap metal

A 30-year-old Chatham man has been arrested after police allegedly found him driving an ATV that was reported stolen from an address on Park Street late last week.

Chatham-Kent police said they found the ATV after someone alerted them that it was seen pulling a trailer of scrap metal to a scrap yard in Chatham on Thursday.

Officers were able to find the driver and matched the vehicle's VIN up with the ATV that had been reported stolen.

The driver was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property.

He was taken back to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
