Man accused of assaulting his mother and an officer

A 19-year-old Blenheim man is facing a handful of charges after an argument with his mom sparked a series of violent outbursts Monday morning.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the home on Chatham Street South in Blenheim for a disturbance just after 9 a.m. Monday and learned that the man had allegedly assaulted his mother and damaged some property after he was arguing with her outside of the home.

Police said someone who was passing by saw the assault and stepped in -- they were also allegedly assaulted by the man.

When police showed up, they arrested the man and took him back to police headquarters.

While he was in custody, the man allegedly "caused further mischief" in the holding cell and assaulted a police officer.

As a result, he was charged with two counts of mischief, two counts of assault, and one count of assaulting a police officer.

He was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.
