Flag raising ceremony commences CK Pride Week

Pride Week 2022 is officially underway in Chatham-Kent.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent kicked things off on Monday with a flag-raising ceremony at the Civic Centre in Chatham with about 75 people in attendance.

CK Pride President Marianne Willson called the recognition of the event "spectacular," noting that for the first time, the Pride flag will fly at municipal centres across the community.

The CK Pride Association will celebrate pride all week long with a slate of family-friendly events from August 15 to August 21.

Included among the week’s events are a display at the Chatham-Kent Library, a barbeque, trivia night and pub night.

The week concludes with a parade, a festival at Tecumseh Park and a church service at St. Andrews United Church.

The Pride parade will take place Saturday, August 20, starting at 11 a.m. from the Chatham-Kent Civic Centre, down King Street West to Tecumseh Park.

Throughout the week, Willson said people are encouraged to share pictures and videos in support of CK Pride through social media.
