Dresden getting rainbow crosswalk

The streets of downtown Dresden will soon be a little bit more colourful.

During a recent Chatham-Kent council meeting, Councillor Jamie McGrail brought forward a motion requesting that municipal staff work with the Dresden Care Group and CK Pride to install a rainbow crosswalk somewhere in the community's downtown.

According to Myriam Armstrong, founder of the Dresden Community Care Group, the crosswalk will likely go at the intersection of Main Street and St. George Street.

"Funding for the rainbow crosswalk will be covered by the Dresden Community Care Group through fundraising and in collaboration with CK Pride who has shown great support throughout the process," Armstrong said. "[I'm] eager to get started with the fundraising efforts and look forward to crossing the road towards a more inclusive community."

According to McGrail's motion, the work should cost around $8,000.

In August 2018, a rainbow crosswalk was painted in downtown Chatham at the intersection of King Street. and Forysth Street.
