CK police member no stranger to Police Hero awards

A member of the Chatham-Kent Police Service has received a Police Hero of the Year award for the amazing work she has done in the community.

Kristine Jarvis, who works in the Communications Centre, was presented with the award at police headquarters in Chatham on Wednesday for being a finalist in the Community Role Model category.

"Congratulations to police hero Community Role Model finalist Kristine Jarvis of the Chatham-Kent Police on receiving her award. Her volunteer work for numerous organizations, including the Make A Wish Foundation truly make this world a better place," said the Police Association of Ontario (PAO).

This year marks the 7th Annual Police Association of Ontario Police Services Hero of the Year Awards.

"Kris is an outstanding roll model and serves the community of Chatham-Kent with pride and honour," read her 2022 nomination. "Jarvis is an original member of the Shop With A Cop (now Holiday with a Hero) steering committee, Salvation Army Toy Drive Chairperson, volunteer with the Make A Wish Foundation, President of the Board, Chatham-Kent Victim Services, Bursary and Donor Coordinator, Paul Herfst Memorial Bursary, and Polar Plunge for Special Olympics participant. Kris never misses the opportunity to coordinate a blanket, coat, hat or mitten drive for those without shelter. She plans birthday and retirement celebrations for her colleagues, and continually promotes goodwill and kindness."

Jarvis' was one of more than 300 nominations received by the PAO this year.

"The volume of incredible stories that outlined the efforts of police personnel in communities throughout the province cannot be understated," the PAO said.

The Chatham-Kent Police Association, Chatham-Kent Acting Police Chief Kirk Earley, Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff, and MP David Epp attended the ceremony.

Jarvis also won a Police Hero award in 2020.
