Anonymous donor gives $51K to CKHA Pediatrics Unit

The Pediatrics Unit at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance will be getting some new pieces of vital equipment thanks to an anonymous individual associated with Mocha Shriners.

Mocha Shriners recently presented the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation with a check for $51,738.

The donations to the Women and Children’s Program Pediatric Unit at the CKHA will be used to purchase high intensity phototherapy lights for jaundice, a Bilisoft Bili Blanket for jaundice, and sleep chairs for family staying with pediatric patients at the hospital.

According to the Vice President of Clinical Programs and Operations at CKHA Caen Suni, the phototherapy lights and Bili Blanket will be crucial in treating jaundice as they help bring down bilirubin levels within infant patients.

“Phototherapy is a highly effective treatment for infant jaundice, and the high-intensity phototherapy lights and Bili Blanket purchased from this donation will give the pediatric unit a greater capacity to administer this treatment,” Suni explained. “We are so thankful to Mocha Shriners for this generous support which will allow to the unit provide the highest level of safe, quality care to our pediatric patients and their families.”

The gift comes from the estate of an anonymous donor associated with Mocha Shriners. The individual was a Chatham-Kent resident who requested that the money be used to help children in the Chatham-Kent community.

Mocha Shriners was founded over a century ago, and consists of 13 Shrine Clubs across Southwestern and Northern Ontario. The group has developed a reputation for its philanthropic efforts to healthcare, healthcare, particularly for children in need.

“As an organization, we are committed to supporting healthcare and helping kids in need from across our region. Purchasing much-needed medical equipment is a key part of that mandate,” Mocha Shriners officials said through a media release. “We are so grateful to be in a position to be able to offer this assistance, and we are thankful that this gift will be put to such good use here in Chatham-Kent.”
