Flight Fest ready for takeoff

Airplanes and live music will take centre stage at the Chatham-Kent Municipal Airport this Saturday, August 6.

The gates for Chatham-Kent Flight Fest open at 9 a.m. with an opening ceremony set for 10.

Static aircraft displays will be open until 4 p.m.

"We have many old aircraft, as well as some new, for people to browse around in," said Tim Schinkel Vice President of the local Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) chapter. "There will be a kids section there so they can come out and enjoy the day. Face painting, rock painting, and there will be multiple activities for the kids to enjoy as well."

Live music will then get underway at 5 p.m. with Dan Bremnes, followed by Hotel California, an Eagles tribute band at 6:30, and Merlin's own Michelle Wright will take the stage at 8:30.

"It's gonna be free, and we're out there on the tarmac," said Wright. "We're going to set everything up on the stage and just hoping everyone will come on out and party with us and have some fun. I look forward to seeing everybody."

Schinkel said the whole event is free thanks to some local businesses.

"We're just asking people who attend to give to the charities that we will have on the field. There will be seven charities represented here, and if you have the means, please donate to them. Otherwise, just come on out and enjoy the day, the entire day is free."

Food Trailers will be selling food on site from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. and shuttle buses will be running to the airport from St. Paul's Congregational Church in Chatham, Blenheim Memorial Arena, and Charing Cross until 11 p.m.
