Man arrested after standoff with police in Chatham

A 33-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing a trio of charges after a domestic disturbance call led to a standoff with police in Chatham Tuesday afternoon.

Chatham-Kent police said they received the tip from a third party, directing them to a residence on Taylor Avenue in Chatham at around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived at the home, they spoke with the man, but he refused to leave at first.

Police said while they were obtaining a warrant that would allow them to come inside, the man -- who was wanted on two outstanding warrants -- surrendered and was arrested.

Officers later learned that the man had allegedly forcibly taken a woman's phone from her while he was arguing with her, adding that the altercation left an abrasion on her chest.

Police said they also learned that the man had allegedly assaulted the woman on two previous occasions.

The accused was charged with three assault-related offences and was taken back to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

Drink toss leads to arrest, assault charge

A 39-year-old Chatham-Kent woman has been charged with assault after she allegedly threw a beverage on another woman during an argument Tuesday night.

Police said they came across the disturbance on Fourth Street in Chatham just before 6 p.m. Tuesday while they were investigating a separate matter.

The woman who threw the drink was arrested, charged, and taken back to police headquarters pending a bail hearing.

Chatham teens arrested after trying to steal ATV

A pair of teens from Chatham are facing charges after they allegedly tried to steal an ATV from a property on Countryview Line and then punctured the tires of the vehicle when they were unsuccessful.

Police said they received the report just before 8 p.m. Tuesday, adding that they found the teens a short distance away and arrested them.

A 15-year-old Chatham boy and a 19-year-old Chatham man were both charged with theft and mischief. The 15-year-old was also charged with breaching his probation.

Both of the accused were taken back to police headquarters and later released with conditions and future court dates.

Ridgetown man arrested in domestic assault case

A 49-year-old Ridgetown man has been arrested and charged with two counts of assault after police were called to investigate a domestic dispute Tuesday night.

Police said they were called to the scene on George Street in Ridgetown shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday and learned that a man and a woman had been arguing when things got physical and the man allegedly assaulted the woman.

The man was charged and taken back to police headquarters, then later released with conditions and a future court date.
