Chatham woman's chest bumping leads to assault charge

A 36-year-old Chatham woman is facing an assault charge after she allegedly "chest bumped" another woman during an argument at a dog park Monday night.

Police said they were called to the park just after 7:15 p.m. Monday, adding that officers learned the two women were arguing when one of the women allegedly grabbed the other woman and "began to chest bump her."

Officers said the victim then tried to call police with her cell phone, but the alleged attacker took the phone and threw it in the bushes.

The woman accused of assaulting the victim took off before police arrived, but police were able to get a description of her and her license as well.

A 36-year-old Chatham woman was later arrested and charged with assault and mischief.

She was taken to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date.

ATV theft suspect also faces drug, probation-related charges

A 23-year-old man is facing a long list of charges after he allegedly took off with someone's ATV on Zone Centre Line just outside of Bothwell.

Chatham-Kent police said the victim was present at the time of the theft, which took place just before 11:30 a.m. Monday.

The victim reportedly saw the man driving away with their ATV and followed the vehicle until it went off-road.

Officers were able to track the path of the ATV with the help of reports from citizens and found it in a bush.

From there, police followed the tracks on foot and managed to find a suspect and the stolen vehicle.

Officers said they arrested the man there and allegedly found a large amount of methamphetamine in his possession along with a BB gun, some plyers, a headlamp, tin snips, bank cards, credit cards, keys, and cellphones.

Police said the man they arrested, who was also wanted on an outstanding warrant, was on probation and banned from driving and possessing weapons.

The 23-year-old Walpole Island man was charged with several offences related to his prohibition and probation orders along with one count each of motor vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of break and enter instruments, drug possession, and drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He was taken into police custody and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Tilbury man stopped for speeding also booked for impaired driving

A 45-year-old man from Tilbury is facing an impaired driving-related charge after a traffic stop between Wheatley and Tilbury early Tuesday morning.

Police said they pulled the vehicle over at around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday after seeing it travelling at a high rate of speed on Wheatley Road near 6th Concession Road.

Police believed the man behind the wheel was under the influence of alcohol, so he was arrested and taken to the OPP station on Park Avenue in Chatham for breath tests.

The man was later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and he was later released pending a future court date.
