Woman accused of shoplifting, slipping out through a fire exit

A 30-year-old Chatham-Kent woman is charged with theft after she allegedly stole some items in a business she had previously been kicked out of.

Police said their investigation started after they received a theft complaint at a business on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg just before 6 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators said they learned that a woman who had previously been trespassed from the business had allegedly removed several items from the shelves, hid them on her person, and then left the store through a fire exit without making any attempts to pay for them.

Officers found her walking along Wallace Street at around 6:40 p.m. Sunday and arrested her. They also recovered the items that were stolen.

The woman was charged with theft and taken to police headquarters where she was set to be held pending a bail hearing.
