Chatham man celebrates $100K lotto win

A retired Chatham resident has a lot to celebrate after collecting a big prize playing the OLG’s Lotto Max.

After 30 years of playing the lottery, Carlos Alves says he's planning on making the most of his $100,000 win.

"I love to play Lotto Max when the jackpot is high," Alves shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. "I play my own numbers and I always say yes to Encore."

Alves was checking his ticket at Queen's Variety & Laundromat on Queen Street in Chatham when he saw the prize amount.

"When I realized I was a big winner, I was silent and in shock," said Alves. "My wife was so happy for me when I told her. She was thrilled to see me get a big win after playing for all these years."

Alves is planning to meet with a financial advisor to invest in his and his wife's future.

"I'm going to make the most of this win," said Alves.
