Bothwell man allegedly hits officer who found him hiding in a closet

A 37-year-old Bothwell man is facing a handful of charges after he allegedly pushed one officer and hit a second one while they were trying to remove him from an apartment closet where he had been hiding.

Chatham-Kent police said they went looking for the man just before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of a disturbance at an apartment building on Talbot Street West in Blenheim where a man was allegedly banging on numerous doors and trying to enter the units.

Police said they learned the man had been kicked out of the building several times and was allegedly found hiding in an apartment closet where "he was not welcome."

When police tried to take him away, he allegedly pushed one of the officers at the scene and hit another one with a closed fist.

The man was arrested and charged with failing to leave a premise when directed, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer.

He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
