Masks still mandatory at CKHA after provincial mandates expire

Both of Chatham-Kent's hospital sites will still require visitors and patients to mask up even after most of the province's mandates expire on the weekend.

Officials at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance said Thursday that they will not be changing their masking policies and procedures for the foreseeable future.

A release from the hospital says it is taking into consideration that the CKHA is a higher risk environment with many elderly and immunocompromised patients.

Officials said the masking policy will continue to require everyone who enters the CKHA's hospital sites to wear a medical grade mask, including all staff, physicians, and volunteers regardless of what area they work in.

The release also noted that policy is consistent with recent guidance issued by Public Health Ontario.
