Man accused of criminal harassment, sexual assault in domestic case

A 46-year-old Ridgetown man accused of not taking no for an answer is facing sexual assault and drunk driving charges.

Chatham-Kent police said their investigation started just before 10 a.m. Tuesday after they received a report of criminal harassment in Chatham.

Officers said the were told that the man had been repeatedly texting and calling a woman after their relationship ended and continued contacting her even after he was told to stop.

Police said the man also allegedly showed up at the woman's residence on Sunday and that some unwanted sexual contact took place at that time.

Officers said they found the man while he was driving on Maple Street in Ridgetown and pulled in behind him as he went into a parking lot.

The officer who approached the man allegedly detected a strong odour of alcohol and suspected the man had been driving under the influence of alcohol, so he was arrested and taken back to police headquarters for some breath tests.
