The Chatham Maroons could learn Tuesday night who they will be facing off against next in the Sutherland Cup.
The St. Catharines Falcons (2-0) will host the Cambridge RedHawks (0-2) at 7 p.m. Tuesday for the first meeting between the two teams in the round robin play.
They were scheduled to meet in Cambridge on Saturday, but that game was cancelled after an outage left Hespeler Arena in Cambridge without power.
A win for the St. Catharines Falcons on Tuesday would clinch their berth in the best-of-three final series against Chatham (2-2 in round robin play) while a Falcons loss would give the RedHawks another chance to even up their win-loss record.
If the RedHawks win out against the Falcons, that would give all of the teams a 2-2 record through four games, triggering a three-way tie in the round robin.
According to the GOJHL's website, that would be settled with the following scenario:
In the event of a three-way tie during the round robin, a team cannot be eliminated by a tie and a tie-breaker game would be scheduled for May 26th between the 2nd and 3rd place teams. A tie between the 1st and 2nd teams would be broken using the GOJHL’s Regular Season Final Standings Policy.
Either way, the Maroons are guaranteed at least one more game in the Sutherland Cup finals (with the date, time, and location yet to be determined).
The Maroons won both of their games against Cambridge -- beating the RedHawks 3-0 on Sunday and 3-2 last week Wednesday -- but they lost both of their games against St. Catharines -- falling to the Falcons 3-2 in overtime in Chatham on May 17 and losing 5-1 on the road against the Falcons on May 20.
