Youth hit by vehicle before school in Chatham

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after a 15-year-old youth was hit by a vehicle while they were crossing a cross walk before school Tuesday morning.

Police said their investigation showed the vehicle that hit the pedestrian was heading south on Victoria Avenue at around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and had stopped at a red light at the intersection, but then started turning east onto McNaughton Avenue when it hit the pedestrian.

The initial report from police said "sunny conditions obstructed the view of the driver."

The youth who was hit by the vehicle was taken to the hospital for treatment of what were reported as "minor injuries."

Wanted man shows up at CK Police HQ

A 38-year-old Wallaceburg man who was wanted for breaching his release conditions has turned himself in.

Chatham-Kent police said the man was released from the courts on June 27 last year with a condition that he report to the Bail Supervision Program at the John Howard Society.

However, the man allegedly failed to comply with his release condition earlier this month, so police tried to find him and then issued a warrant for his arrest when they couldn't track him down.

Police said the accused turned himself in at CKPS headquarters on Tuesday. He was taken into custody and later released by the court with conditions and a future court date.
