Tip to police leads to impaired driving charge 

A 61-year-old man spent some time sobering up in a holding cell after he was caught driving impaired on Bluewater Line in Wallaceburg.

Police said they received a call Friday evening after a citizen saw the vehicle swerving and travelling at a low rate of speed.

Officers stopped the vehicle on Bluewater Line and determined the man was impaired by alcohol.

He was arrested and charged with operating while impaired and operating while impaired over 80.

He was later released with a future court date.

Man arrested for assault with a weapon 

A 30-year-old man from Chatham is facing an assault charge after allegedly using bear spray in a physical altercation with another man.

Police said the altercation Friday night led to one man being sprayed in the face with the bear spray. The man left the area before police could arrive.

However, officers located him and arrested him for assault with a weapon.

He was transported to police headquarters, lodged and will be later released with conditions and a future court date.

Suspicious person call leads to several charges 

A 25-year-old Chatham man is facing several charges after he was found snooping inside the garage of a residence on McDowell Line in Harwich Township.

Police said they received a suspicious person call Friday afternoon about a man walking into backyards while pushing a black motorbike.

Officers located the motorbike lying in the driveway of one residence.

Police spoke to the homeowner who advised that no one should be inside the residence but then heard footsteps.

The man was located by Chatham-Kent Police Service Dog Helix in the attached garage.

Shortly after, police viewed surveillance footage which showed the same male, further up the street, entering a backyard and stealing the black motorbike.

He was arrested and charged with breaking and entering, and theft under $5,000.

All property was recovered and returned to the rightful owner.
