The next step in building a new school and child care centre in south Chatham will be discussed at Chatham-Kent council on Monday night.
A site plan control application is coming forward for approval.
The plan is to build a new two-storey elementary school with an attached one-storey child care centre on the south side of Tweedsmuir Avenue West, just west of Keil Drive South. The proposed 33,624 sq. ft. building will go on eight acres of vacant land.
"The proposed elementary school and child care centre are within the Chatham Urban Boundary and adjacent to existing built-up residential areas, which they will serve," read the report. "The development is an efficient use of vacant and appropriately designated lands that have access to full municipal services, and are in an area including existing and anticipated transit facilities and other public services."
The St. Clair Catholic District School Board has also submitted a number of supporting studies and technical documents on safe lighting, traffic impact, and sewers.
The land use designation of the subject property was changed from low-density residential to institutional at the December 14, 2020 council meeting to facilitate the new development.
