A Chatham woman has pleaded guilty to stabbing another woman in Chatham about a year ago.
Brandy Redmond, 29, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of aggravated assault in a video appearance in Chatham Court on Wednesday. Redmond was initially charged with attempted murder in April of 2021 for stabbing a woman she knows outside of an apartment building on Riverview Drive.
Chatham-Kent police previously reported an argument between two women on April 26, 2021 escalated into a physical confrontation. Police said the 30-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but survived.
Redmond was also charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Redmond remains in custody at the Windsor Jail. She previously waived her bail.
A hearing will be held on June 1, 2022 to set a date for the sentencing.
The prosecution and the defence don't agree on some of the facts of the guilty plea and they will be sorted out during the sentencing hearing. Assistant Crown Attorney Scott Kerwin said the prosecution is opposed to enhanced credit for time already served. Additional witnesses may also be called during that hearing.
