Two arrests after separate impaired driving-related crashes

A 59-year-old Chatham man and a 23-year-old London woman are both facing impaired driving charges after police were called to a pair of single-vehicle collisions in Chatham-Kent.

CK police said the first collision was on Colborne Street in Chatham just after 4 p.m. Monday.

Officers said the driver was the only person in the vehicle at the time and he was taken to the hospital for medical care.

Officers believed the man was driving under the influence of alcohol and he failed to provide a breath sample, so he was arrested.

The accused was charged with impaired driving and refusing to comply with a demand for a breath sample and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Police said they responded to the second crash early this morning on Longwoods Road in Chatham Township.

Officers said their investigation showed that a vehicle had gone off the road and rolled several times before it stopped in a ravine.

Police said the driver -- who was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash -- didn't suffer any serious physical injuries.

Investigators believed she had been driving under the influence of alcohol, so she was taken to the OPP station for breath tests and was later charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.

She was later released with conditions and a future court date.
