Chatham-Kent breweries tap into summer-long festival

Some of the biggest names in local craft brewing are teaming up to host a summer-long festival in Chatham-Kent.

BREWFEST CK will bring Bayside Brewing Company, Sons of Kent Brewing Co, and Red Barn Brewing Company together for three festivals at each location through the summer.

"We don't see each other as competition in this industry," said Red Barn Brewing Company Co-owner Denny Vervaet. "We are collaborating together to let people know what great beer tastes like."

The festival is branded as BREWFEST CK but each brewery will have its own twist on the festival based on its location in Chatham-Kent. The first festival, EAUFEST will kick off at Bayside on June 18, followed by FUNKFEST at Sons of Kent on July 16, and to end the summer Red Barn will host FARMFEST on September 3rd.

"It's all family-friendly and admission is free," said Veravet. "We will be accepting donations at each event and donating the proceeds to three local charities in Chatham-Kent."

Each event will feature a variety of local vendors and entertainment.

"We're looking forward to seeing everyone," said Veravet. "We hope to see people from outside the community. We want to showcase our products. We want to showcase our local vendors and charities that we are going to be donating to."

Each brewery will be featuring a new beer this summer during the festival.
