Firefighters respond to structure fires on same street in Wallaceburg

Chatham-Kent firefighters were kept busy after two fires broke out on the same street in Wallaceburg on the weekend.

Crews from Station 3 in Wallaceburg and Station 2 in Chatham were called to a structure fire at 475 Wallace Street just after 7 p.m. Saturday.

Officials said the fire was contained to the apartment, however, several units below suffered from water damage.

No injuries were reported and the fire scene is currently being held by Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services for investigation.

An investigator from the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall has been called in.

Firefighters from the same stations were also called to 595 Wallace Street just after 3 a.m. Sunday after reports of smoke coming from a boarded-up property.

Officials said crews arrived to find smoke coming from the second storey of the multi-residential structure and flames coming out the rear door.

Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire from the open door, however, worked for several more hours to gain access to the rest of the boarded structure," said Fire Public Educator Whitney Burk.

No injuries were reported and the cause has been listed as undetermined.

The damage estimate is unknown at this time.
