Man accused of skipping court twice

A 40-year-old Chatham man is in more trouble with the law after he allegedly skipped two court dates over the past year-and-a-half.

Police said the man was arrested in August of 2020 and charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, then released with a future court date.

Officers said the man allegedly failed to show up for that appointment and was arrested again in October 2021 on an outstanding warrant.

Once again, he was released with a future court date, and police said once again, he allegedly skipped his court date.

Officers said they caught up with the man again on Tuesday and took him back to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

Woman caught out past her curfew

A 28-year-old woman is in trouble with police again after she was allegedly caught out past her court-imposed curfew Tuesday night.

Police said the woman was supposed to stay inside a specific residence between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. daily, but officers allegedly found her at a different residence at around 12 a.m. Wednesday while they were responding to a call at an address in Chatham for a separate incident.

Police said the woman couldn't give them a lawful excuse for why she was violating her curfew, so they arrested her and charged her with failing to comply with her court order.

The accused was taken back to police headquarters and later released with a future court date.
