Latest Cascades Casino revenue brings in over $255K for CK

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is receiving over $255,000 for hosting the Cascades Casino in Chatham.

For the fourth quarter, from January 1, 2022 to March 31, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) issued a non-tax gaming revenue payment of $255,748 to Chatham-Kent.

The latest payment is down slightly compared to the previous quarter when Chatham-Kent received a $326,705 revenue payment. However, casinos across the province were once again faced with rigorous public health restrictions during the first three months of 2022.

"Gaming sites in Ontario were subject to public health restrictions through most of the fourth quarter, including closures for a period of 26 days, which had an impact on gaming revenues and the payments to host municipalities," OLG officials said through a media release. "Casinos were able to open at full capacity as of February 17, 2022, and all remaining public health restrictions were lifted as of March 21, 2022.

The OLG said Chatham-Kent received a total of $921,281 in gaming revenue for fiscal 2021-22.

The payments made to host communities are based on a formula consistently applied across all gaming sites in Ontario using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site. Since 2001, Chatham-Kent has received a total of $14.4 million.

“Municipality Contribution Agreements are an important source of funding for municipalities, and help deliver critical services that the people of Ontario enjoy,” said Minister of Finance Peter Bethlenfalvy. “Land-based casinos create good, local jobs and play an important role in supporting our economy, and the government will always support a strong and vibrant gaming sector in Ontario.”
