Police arrest a pair accused of violating court order

Two Wallaceburg residents are facing charges after they allegedly violated a court order that was meant to keep them apart.

Chatham-Kent police said a 36-year-old Wallaceburg man was released from the court with a number of conditions on October 5, 2021, including a ban on communicating with a specific woman and an order to stay at least 100 metres away from her.

Despite those orders, police allegedly found the man with the woman at a residence on Thomas Avenue in Wallaceburg while they were following up on a call about an unwanted person there.

Police said their investigation also showed that the woman had allowed the man to live at the residence for about a month.

As a result, the 36-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a release order and was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

A 39-year-old Wallaceburg woman was also arrested. She was charged with facilitating a breach of a release order and was later released with a future court date.
