Police find meth on accused bike thief

A 25-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly stole a bicycle from a residence on Sheldon Avenue in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said they were notified of the theft shortly before noon on Tuesday and were able to identify a suspect after reviewing some surveillance footage.

Officers later spotted the suspect on Lacroix Street in Chatham, adding that he ran away from police, but was still arrested shortly after that.

When police were searching the man, they also allegedly found some suspected methamphetamine in his possession.

The accused was charged with theft, possession of stolen property, and drug possession and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Police in Chatham find pickup stolen from Windsor

Chatham-Kent police were able to recover a pickup truck that was reported stolen from Windsor after officers found it in Chatham early Wednesday morning.

Police said they found the truck on Merritt Avenue in Chatham at around 1 a.m. Wednesday and pulled the vehicle over.

A 42-year-old man was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property. He was taken back to police headquarters pending a bail hearing.
