Box Lunch returns to CK for good cause

Community Living Chatham-Kent is once again delivering lunch to the community for a good cause.

The organization has launched its annual Box Lunch initiative. On Thursday, May 12, anyone who has placed an online order will get a Subway lunch delivered.

"It's a full Subway lunch for only $10," explained Supervisor of Special Events and Volunteers Nicole Roeszler. "In that lunch you a 6" subway sub, chips, fresh vegetables and a cookie and water. The best part is that it's delivered."

The lunches will be delivered between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. by Community Living Chatham-Kent volunteers. Roeszler said it's a perfect opportunity for lunch for groups of co-workers, families or classrooms.

Roeszler added that all of the money that's raised will stay local.

"All the proceeds raised from the Box Lunch will stay right here in CK to enrich the lives of people who have diverse disabilities by providing quality services and meaningful, inclusive opportunities," she explained.

The deadline to get orders in is Tuesday, May 3 at noon and can be placed by clicking here. Orders must be pre-paid online and volunteers will not be carrying cash on them while they make deliveries.

Additionally, on the order page, individuals will have the option to support Community Living's Box Lunch For Kids initiative and sponsor a child's lunch for $5. The Box Lunch For Kids program was introduced in 2019, with volunteers delivering free lunches to schools across Chatham-Kent for children that normally participate in the breakfast program. This year's Box Lunch For Kids will take place on May 13.

Since its inception in 2019, Roeszler said over 4,000 lunches have been delivered to children across Chatham-Kent.

"We just hope to offer it to as many children as possible," she said. "So if you're interested in supporting that you just have to check off that box to donate$5 towards the program."
