Man found breaching conditions by sleeping on a sofa

A 30-year-old Wallaceburg man spent the night in a holding cell after he fell asleep on a couch in a home he was supposed to stay away from.

Chatham-Kent police said the man was released from court with several conditions in November last year, with orders not to communicate with a specific man or to be within 100 metres of the man. He was also banned from attending the specific man's residence on Base Line.

Despite that, police said they found the accused sleeping on a sofa at around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at the home he had been banned from attending.

As a result of the investigation, the man was arrested and charged with four counts of failing to comply with his release order and one count of possession of stolen property.

He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Late night stop leads to arrest

A 32-year-old Chatham Township man is facing several charges after he was pulled over by police overnight and allegedly refused to get out of his vehicle.

Police said they also allegedly found a spring-loaded knife on him and some suspected cocaine in his vehicle.

An officer on general patrol pulled the vehicle over shortly after 12 a.m. Thursday and learend that the driver had been released from court the day before with conditions and a future court date -- one of those conditions included a curfew.

Police said they attempted to arrest the man, but he refused to exit his vehicle. He was still eventually removed from the vehicle and taken into custody.

Officers then allegedly found the knife and the drugs in the man's possession.

The man was charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order, resisting a peace officer, and possession of a banned weapon. He was taken to police headquarters and held for bail.
