A familiar sign will soon be a permanent structure at a busy intersection in Chatham.
Enbridge Gas has volunteered to install the CK metal letters on the corner of Keil Drive and Grand Avenue on their main office’s front lawn.
The letters were originally created for the 2018 International Plowing Match that was held in Chatham-Kent.
Municipal councillors unanimously voted Monday to waive permit fees that would otherwise cost Enbridge somewhere between $1,000 and $1,500 to erect the signs.
Enbridge spokesperson Leanne McNaughton said the company chose this location because it is simply one of the most visible corners in Chatham.
"The ample green space mitigates any safety concerns for motorists and pedestrians," said McNaughton.
Construction is expected to start in May and be completed by late spring or early summer.
Mayor Darrin Canniff said the art installation is a representation of the partnership between the rural and urban communities of Chatham-Kent.
"Repurposing the letters as a permanent structure adds pride to the community by featuring local art," said McNaughton.
