Thamesville man faces nearly three dozen charges after traffic stop

A 33-year-old Thamesville man is facing a total of 35 charges after a traffic stop in Chatham-Kent that allegedly turned up a sawed-off shotgun and some ammunition.

Chatham-Kent police said they pulled the vehicle over on Selton Line near Orford Road at around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday and learned that the driver was banned from driving because of "previous incidents."

Police said the man was charged accordingly and released with a future court date and that the vehicle was then towed from the scene and impounded.

Officers said when they searched the vehicle, they found a 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun and some ammunition.

Further investigation showed that the shotgun had been reported stolen and that the man was also bound by four different weapons bans.

As a result, police arrested the man at around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

During that arrest, officers also reportedly found some illegal drugs, a taser, and some brass knuckles.

The accused was charged with 35 offences in total, including sixteen counts of possession of weapons and ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
