Ride CK launches new app

Chatham residents will soon be scheduling their public transit trips through a new mobile app.

Starting December 1, riders will request their trips through the Ride CK OnRequest Transit app.

The service allows riders to take shared trips between any two bus stops in Chatham between Monday and Friday between 7:15 p.m. - 12:45 a.m.

“We’ve heard the public’s feedback during the successful OnRequest pilot phase which began in March 2020,” said Transit and Capital Asset Management Manager Ann-Marie Millson. "Municipal council has now permanently extended this service and we're happy to incorporate some of the feedback we've received into this new app."

The app can be downloaded in the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android phones.

According to Millson, on-demand transit was identified as the preferred service for public transit in the municipality during times when riders aren't using the service as much. However, the new on-demand service, won't affect the scheduled fixed routes that continue in Chatham when more people are riding the bus.

“The new platform will also prepare us for future expansion of OnRequest in the Municipality," said Millson.

Riders without access to the app can continue to call 519-436-3233 to book their OnRequest trip up to two days in advance. A new booking web portal is also expected to be available to ridership in the new year.
