Man accused of breaking in, breaking bottle

A 31-year-old man of no fixed address is facing charges after he allegedly broke into a business on King Street in Chatham and stole several bottles of alcohol.

Police said he also smashed a bottle during the incident, which took place at around 5 p.m. Monday.

Officers said an observant citizen was able to help police to identify a suspect and they found him a short time later on Wellington Street West.

The accused was charged with mischief and break and enter while committing theft. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Suspended drivers stopped in Chatham

A 29-year-old Chatham man who was suspended from driving for not paying his fines is in more trouble with the law after police allegedly spotted him behind the wheel again in Chatham early Tuesday morning.

Chatham-Kent police said an officer on general patrol spotted the man driving a vehicle on Park Street just before 1 a.m. Tuesday and pulled him over.

The man was charged with driving under suspension and his vehicle was towed from the scene.

Police said they also stopped a 19-year-old woman Tuesday morning who was driving while suspended.

An officer on general patrol pulled her over on McNaughton Avenue East between Victoria Avenue and Elizabeth Street in Chatham.

She was charged and her vehicle was also towed from the scene.
