Shelter needs help to care for animals

A new fundraising campaign to help save surrendered and abandoned pets in Chatham-Kent is set to start.

The Under One Roof campaign will help Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAW Rescue) raise "much-needed" funds to continue to operate their animal shelter this winter.

PAW Rescue said abandoned and surrendered animals require a lot of financial support.

"As we head into the colder months, Pet and Wildlife Rescue wants to ensure that all surrendered and abandoned animals in Chatham-Kent are safe, warm, healthy and cared for," wrote PAW Rescue in a news release Friday afternoon. "That is why PAW Rescue is launching a new six-week campaign called “Under One Roof”, designed to raise awareness and funds to assist with the daily operations of the Rescue and to establish an emergency medical fund."

The shelter said it gets a wide variety of pets and wildlife coming through the door every day and it needs to be prepared for the unexpected because some of the animals taken in are not very healthy.

"Unfortunately, not every animal we take in is of optimal health. As each animal is seen by an independent veterinarian, there are cases where medical or surgical care is required," read the news release.

PAW Rescue said the emergency medical fund will cover the costs of urgent medical care for the injured or sick animals.

The Under One Roof Campaign will run from Monday until December 31, 2021. Money can be donated through the shelter's website at http://www.pawr.org.

Those wishing to adopt an animal can also visit their website or Facebook page to view animals ready to find their forever home.

"Whether it's during their stay with us at Pet and Wildlife Rescue or through our adoption program, let’s ensure all abandoned and surrendered animals will be safe, warm and healthy, Under One Roof," said PAW Rescue.
