Man accused of standing in front of moving cement truck

A 34-year-old man of no fixed address is facing several charges after he allegedly stood in front of a cement truck, spit in the driver's face, and then tried to grab a police officer's taser.

Chatham-Kent police said they got involved in the case after receiving a call about a disturbance in a parking lot in Chatham Tuesday morning.

Officers said their investigation showed that the man had purposely stood in front of a cement truck that was travelling on Park Avenue West, causing the driver to slam on his brakes in order to avoid hitting him.

The man then allegedly spat in the driver's face after he pulled into a nearby parking lot and confronted the man about his behaviour.

Before police arrived at the scene, the man also allegedly punched another person who was standing nearby.

When officers showed up, the man allegedly lied to police about who he was and then threw his mask into the driver's seat of a police cruiser and tried to reach for an officer's taser when they found out who he really was.

The accused was arrested and charged with two counts of assault, obstructing police, assaulting police, and attempting to disarm a police officer.

Wanted woman found with man she wasn't supposed to see

The law has come calling again for a 29-year-old Chatham woman who was released from police custody less than two weeks ago.

Chatham-Kent police said one of the conditions of her release on October 31 was that she wasn't supposed to communicate with a specific Chatham man.

Despite that order, police allegedly found the woman with that man at a business in Chatham Tuesday morning.

Police said they arrested the woman, who was also wanted on some outstanding warrants, and allegedly found some stolen property in her possession that had been taken from a local pharmacy.

Officers said they also found some suspected methamphetamine and some psilocybin (magic mushrooms) on her.

The accused was charged with two counts of drug possession and one count each of failing to comply with her release conditions, theft, and possession of stolen property.
